What We’ve Done

Over the past few years, the New Student Engagement Board has launched a number of important University initiatives.

Eco Hub Apiary

Partnering with the Office of Sustainability, NSEB financed the construction of the University’s newest apiary, designed to increase pollinator activity around the UTD Eco Hub, support the Richardson bee population and increase the production of UTD’s local honey.

EngageUTD System

Powered by the GivePulse software platform and made possible by NSEB support, EngageUTD connects UT Dallas students with volunteering opportunities and helps students and staff submit, approve and keep track of student volunteer hours.

First-Generation Family Orientation

A collaboration between professionals in the Office of the Provost and Student Affairs, the First-Generation Family Orientation introduces students and their families and friends to life at UT Dallas and to offices, programs, and services that contribute to new students’ academic and extracurricular success.

Hope Center Membership

With support from NSEB, UT Dallas joined the Hope Center’s 2021 Institutional Capacity Building Cohort to look at ways to improve the campus support system serving vulnerable students.

International Welcome Care Packages

Amidst disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the team in Intercultural Programs partnered with UTD Big Howdy, Student Development and the Student Wellness Center to provide welcome care packages, face masks and hand sanitizers to newly arrived international students.

Welcome package includes food, bottled water, a facemask, hand sanitizer and a Big Howdy party invitation.

Transfer Research Initiative

Supported by an award from the New Student Engagement Fund, the team that oversees the Undergraduate Success Scholar (USS) program partnered with UT Dallas faculty to develop a course introducing underrepresented students to research methodologies and on-campus opportunities.
